Press Release Eurobeef 2009

Belgium is renowned all over the world as a Burgundian country where good food and the joys of the table are an essential part of our national culture. Belgium has a wealth of restaurants where you can enjoy excellent dining and the supermarkets present a wide and diverse range of fine food products. Butchers and other purveyors of fresh food products also play a significant role in the market by responding to the exacting demands of today's consumers with great creativity and craftsmanship, and quality products.

Against the background of this culinary tradition, Belgium's trade fair MEAT & FRESH EXPO is held every two years in Kortrijk Xpo (in Kortrijk, Belgium).  Belgium's Landsbond der Beenhouwers, Spekslagers en Traiteurs (National Association of Butchers, Charcutiers and Traiteurs) has been holding the Eurobeef Trade Competition at Meat & Fresh Expo for many years.

Eurobeef Trade Competition:
for professionals in Belgium & [now also] other European countries


The Eurobeef Trade Competition is the top competition for professionals (in Belgium, and now also from other European countries) who handcraft quality dishes, charcuterie and traiteur products using all the skills of their trade. All products entered for the competition will be subjected to rigorous scrutiny by the professional jury and the consumer jury during judging.

The Trade Competition always attracts a strong field of competitors and there is massive interest in the entries. This is all the more so because the competition is held during Meat & Fresh Expo, the leading biennial trade fair for butchers and other specialists in fresh food products in Belgium. The products entered for the Eurobeef Trade Competition will be on show in a central location at the event, in a completely redesigned, high qualitative display.

The first international participants in 2007 highly enthusiastic !



 In 2007, a British delegation of butchers took part in the Eurobeef Trade Competition for the first time. The Belgian jury examined their entries and awarded the Belgian Jury's Special Prize for the Best International Product to Mr Harry Coates of Durham (UK).

In view of the enthusiasm of the British butchers and their intention of entering their top products for the Eurobeef Trade Competition in 2009, this International Category will now be open to butchers of all nationalities.

The British butchers were highly enthusiastic about their participation and the Belgian certificates and medals they won. We can guarantee that you will be equally enthusiastic! And you could even carry off the Prize for the Best International Product!
